the making of Maya's Mountain
My mum has been a private piano teacher teaching in our family home for many decades now. The majority of her pupils have been young children from the Japanese immigrant community in Ealing and Acton - when I was in primary school she taught my entire circle of friends, although it’s hard to say which came first now that I think about it.
Through periods of recession and personal hardship, and through this ongoing crisis, none of these parents have withdrawn their children from piano lessons. I am grateful and admiring of them, who continue to recognise and nurture the value of a musical education now. So, I made this book with my mum’s pupils in mind.

I've put together a vlog of the process of making this book for you to watch above. Enjoy!
